What is a Twitter bio generator?A Twitter bio generator is an AI tool that writes the short description on your X (formerly Twitter) profile. You describe yourself in a few words and pick a tone, and it returns bio options that fit X's 160-character limit. ContentStudio's Twitter bio generator is free and needs no sign-up.

How to use it

How to Use the X Bio Generator

  1. Describe yourself

Write a few words about you or your brand: name, location, profession, interests and what you post about on X.

  2. Pick a tone of voice

Professional for business and job seekers, witty or casual for personal accounts, motivational for coaches and creators.

  3. Generate

Click Generate Twitter Bio Now to get bio options.

  4. Copy and edit

Copy the one that fits, add a personal detail, and paste it into your X profile.

Specific inputs produce more usable outputs. "B2B SaaS founder sharing growth marketing experiments" generates better bios than "entrepreneur and marketer".

Bios you can write

Bios you can write with this Twitter bio generator

Personal accounts

Who you are, what you care about and a touch of personality. Good for people who post about hobbies, opinions or daily life.

Creators and writers

What you post, how often and why people should follow, for example "New thread every Tuesday".

Businesses and brands

What you sell, who it is for and where to get help. Add a support handle or opening hours if people contact you on X.

Professionals and job seekers

Role, niche and one proof point, such as a company, a result or a credential. Recruiters search X too.

What makes a good bio

What makes a good Twitter bio

Say who you are in the first few words

People decide to follow in seconds, often from a hover card or a reply. Lead with your role or niche, not a quote.

Tell people what they will get

"Daily tips on remote hiring" is a reason to follow. "Thoughts are my own" is not.

Use words people search for

X's people search reads names, handles and bios. Put your niche keyword ("UX designer", "climate finance") in plain words.

Add one next step

A link in the website field, a newsletter, or "DMs open". One call to action is enough.

Keep the style consistent

Match your profile photo, header and pinned post. A clear handle helps too. Get ideas with the X (Twitter) username generator.

Bio formulas

Simple formulas for an X bio

If you're stuck, fill in one of these patterns, then paste the result into the generator to get polished versions in your tone.

  • Role + topic + promise: "[Role] sharing [topic] so you can [result]."
  • Proof + personality: "[Credential or result]. [Hobby or quirk]. [What you post]."
  • Business: "[What you sell] for [who]. [Location or hours]. Help: [@support handle]."
  • Creator schedule: "[Topic] explained simply. New [thread/video] every [day]."
  • Job seeker: "[Role] ([top 3 skills]). Open to [type of role]. Portfolio below."

Mistakes to avoid

  • Buzzword lists ("Visionary. Disruptor. Thought leader.") that say nothing about what you post.
  • Old information, such as a job you left or a launch that has ended.
  • A full URL in the bio when the website field is empty.
  • More than two or three emojis, which make the bio hard to read and use up characters.
  • Writing for everyone. A bio that speaks to one audience gets more of the right followers.

Character limit

X (Twitter) Bio Character Limit

X enforces a 160-character limit on profile bios. This limit applies to all X account types: personal, creator and business. Spaces, punctuation and emojis all count toward the 160-character limit. X Premium does not raise it.

The 160-character limit is more generous than TikTok (80 characters), Facebook's profile intro (101 characters) and Instagram (150 characters), but tighter than LinkedIn (220 characters for the headline). It is enough for two short sentences or one sentence with a call to action and a credential.

Profile fields

X profile fields: bio, name, handle, location and website

The bio is one of five text fields on your X profile. Use each for its own job, so you don't waste bio characters.

FieldLimitUse it for
Display name50 charactersYour name or brand, plus an optional keyword
Username (@handle)15 charactersYour unique address on X
Bio160 charactersWho you are, what you post, one call to action
Location30 charactersCity, region or "Remote"
WebsiteOne linkYour site, newsletter or link page, so the URL stays out of your bio

In the bio, @mentions link to other accounts and #hashtags link to search results. Use them sparingly. Pick a branded tag with the X (Twitter) hashtag generator.

Edit your bio

How to Edit Your Bio on X

On desktop (x.com)

  1. Go to your profile page.
  2. Click Edit profile.
  3. Click the bio field and update the text. The character counter shows remaining characters in real time.
  4. Click Save.

On mobile (X app)

  1. Go to your profile by tapping your profile photo.
  2. Tap Edit profile.
  3. Tap the bio field, update the text, and tap Save.

Bio changes take effect immediately. X does not publish a limit on how often you can edit your bio, so you can test a few versions.

What is the character limit for an X (Twitter) bio?

X bios allow 160 characters. Spaces, punctuation and emojis all count. This is the same limit Twitter had before the rebrand to X in 2023.
Yes. Emojis are allowed in X bios and count toward the 160 characters. Many emojis count as more than one character, and combined emojis (flags, families) can count as several. Check the counter in X's Edit profile screen to confirm the count with your emojis included.
The bio is the descriptive text below your display name on your profile page, limited to 160 characters. The display name is the name shown in your profile header and in the feed when you post, limited to 50 characters. Both are separate from the username (@handle), which is unique and limited to 15 characters.
X's people search looks at names, usernames and bios. Including your niche, professional role or key topic in plain words in your bio helps the right people find your profile. The display name is also searchable, so a keyword there can help too.
Each run gives you several bio options. Run the generator again with a different tone or a slightly different description to get more. There is no limit on how many times you can generate.
Yes. Select a professional tone and describe the business's category and audience in the input. Business bios work best when they state what the product or service does and who it serves, rather than generic brand language.
Start with your role or niche, say what people get by following you, add one personal detail and end with one call to action. Keep it under 160 characters and use plain words people search for. ContentStudio's free Twitter bio generator writes options from a short description, and you can then keep your feed active with scheduled posts.
Who you are (role or niche), what you post about, one proof point or personality detail, and a next step such as a newsletter or "DMs open". Put your link in the website field instead of the bio to save characters.
No. Premium raises the post length limit, but the bio stays at 160 characters for every account type.
One of each at most. @mentions link to another account, for example your company, and hashtags link to search results. Too many make a bio hard to read and send visitors away from your profile.
