How to schedule posts on X (formerly Twitter)

Note: The Planner and Composer buttons on the dashboard have been merged into a single section called Publisher. You can now find the Compose button inside the Publisher tab.

In the fast-paced world of social media, timing is everything — especially on a platform like X (formerly Twitter) where content moves quickly and visibility can shift in seconds. Whether you're a social media manager, a content creator, or a business owner, maintaining a consistent presence on X is essential for building brand awareness, driving engagement, and staying top of mind with your audience.

But here’s the challenge: tweeting in real time every day can be overwhelming and time-consuming, especially when managing multiple platforms or juggling other responsibilities. That’s where scheduling tools like ContentStudio come in — allowing you to plan ahead, stay organized, and post content when your audience is most active, even if you're not online at that moment.

With ContentStudio, scheduling tweets becomes not just easier, but smarter. You can compose posts, add rich media, generate AI-powered captions and hashtags, and even create threads — all from one unified dashboard. It saves time, reduces last-minute stress, and helps you stick to a well-thought-out content strategy.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about scheduling posts on X using ContentStudio. From setting up your account to using AI tools and publishing threaded tweets, this step-by-step breakdown will help you streamline your workflow and maximize your impact on the platform.

Step-by-step guide: How to schedule posts on X (formerly Twitter)

Planning and scheduling your tweets in advance can help you maintain a consistent posting schedule, manage campaigns more effectively, and reduce the stress of last-minute content creation. Using a tool like ContentStudio, you can easily compose, optimize, and schedule tweets, including threads.

Here’s a detailed breakdown of how to schedule your tweets on X, step by step:

Log in to ContentStudio

Start by logging in to your ContentStudio account. You’ll land on the dashboard, which gives you an overview of your calendar, recent posts, analytics, and publishing tools. From here, everything you need is just a few clicks away.

Tip: Make sure your X (Twitter) account is already connected in the ‘Accounts’ section under ‘Settings’. If not, connect it before you begin scheduling.

Access the Post Composer

From the top menu, hover over the “Compose” button and select “Social Post” from the dropdown menu. This will open the Post Composer — your central workspace for creating content.

Select your X (Twitter) account

On the left-hand side of the composer, you’ll see a list of your connected social media accounts. Find the section labeled “X (Twitter)” and choose the specific Twitter handle you want to post from.

Write your post

In the main text box, start composing your tweet. Remember, X limits you to 280 characters per tweet, so keep your message sharp and concise. Whether you're promoting a blog, announcing a product update, or sharing a thought-provoking stat, make every character count.

Struggling with writer’s block or need fresh tweet ideas? ContentStudio’s built-in AI Caption Generator can help:

  • Click on the AI Toolkit on the right side of the composer.
  • Select AI Caption Generator.
  • Enter a prompt, topic, or description related to your tweet idea.
  • Choose a tone of voice (professional, witty, casual, etc.).
  • Set your desired word count (ideally under 280 characters).
  • Enable options for automatic hashtag and emoji generation.
  • Choose the number of variations (1–3) and click Generate.

You’ll get multiple tweet-ready options, complete with hashtags and emojis. Click “Add to Editor” next to your preferred version, and it will populate the tweet box automatically.

Pro Tip: Use line breaks, emojis, and formatting tricks like ALL CAPS for emphasis — but sparingly, to avoid spammy-looking posts.

Add Media, Emojis, and Hashtags

Now, make your tweet more engaging by adding visual and contextual elements. Click the “Add Media” button to upload images, GIFs, or videos from your device or the Media Library.

Enable Threaded Tweets (For long-form content)

Have more to say than 280 characters allow? You can create a Tweet Thread to tell a longer story or break a complex idea into parts:

  • Toggle the “Threaded Tweet” switch on.
  • A new tweet box will appear underneath the first one.
  • Add as many tweets as needed (each up to 280 characters).
  • You can attach different media, emojis, or hashtags to each individual tweet.
  • Keep your readers engaged by creating a strong hook in the first tweet and follow up with useful, interesting information in each reply.

Open the posting schedule panel

Scroll to the bottom of the composer to access the Posting Schedule section. Here, you’ll find several options:

  • Post Now: Publishes the tweet immediately.
  • Add to Queue: Adds it to your pre-set posting queue (great for ongoing campaigns).
  • Add to Content Category: Posts based on your content buckets (like “Motivational Quotes” or “Product Updates”).
  • Draft: Saves it as a draft to revisit later.
  • Schedule: Select this option if you want to pick a specific date and time, which is what we’re doing here.

Click the “Schedule” radio button to open the calendar tool.

Choose your date and time

Once the calendar pops up:

  • Use the arrows to browse months ahead if you’re scheduling far in advance.
  • Click on your desired posting date.
  • Select the exact time you want your tweet to go live.
  • Make sure the correct X account is selected (you can only post to one Twitter account per post).

Note: X does not support different time zones per account. Be mindful of your audience’s location when setting time.

Review and finalize

Before you hit “Schedule,” double-check:

  • Your tweet’s character count.
  • Spelling and grammar.
  • Hashtags and emojis.
  • Correct account selection.
  • Date and time.

Once you’re confident everything looks good, click “Schedule”.
